Data di Indonesia berdasarkan laporan RISKESDAS bidang biomedis tahun 2007 menunjukkan prevalensi hiperlipidemia atas dasar konsentrasi kolesterol total > 200 mg/dL adalah sebanyak 39,8%. Sedangkan data WHO menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kadar kolesterol diestimasikan dapat menyebabkan 2,6 juta kematian (4,5% dari total) dan 29,7 juta Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYS) yaitu sekitar 2% dari total DALYS.
