Author Guidelines

Berkala Ilmiah Kedokteran Duta Wacana (BIKDW) Journal will publish manuscripts related to all aspects in the field of medicine. BIKDW Journal accepts both the original article (research or literature review) as well as interesting case reports. All manuscripts submitted to our platform will be published after completion of several steps (editorial, format or content revision) from the editorial team and peer reviewers in relevant fields of expertise. The editor is entitled to edit part or all of the contents of the submitted manuscript without changing the objective of the study.

Language of Publication

All articles will be published in American English, following American spelling. Manuscript in Bahasa Indonesia is welcomed, with further requirements to be translated into UK English. We will use Language Editing Service for article of Indonesian language with a certain fee (please contact our secretariat by e-mail bikdw@staff.ukdw.ac.id

General Instruction

We accept four types of articles, which are:

  • Research

Original research articles in basic medical science, applied and health-related science. The format of the research article consists of title page, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, conclusion and references. Each different type of original studies should follow unique reporting guidelines (refer to Equator Network (https://www.equator-network.org). Maximum word count is 4000.

  • Review

Articles covering the latest issues in medical sciences, consisting of titles, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, conclusion and bibliography. Systematic review or meta-analysis should use PRISMA guidelines. Maximum word count is 4000.

  • Case Report

The case report format consists of titles, abstract, introduction, case (patient information), discussion (including patient perspective), conclusions, and references. Case report should follow reporting guideline from CARE (https://www.care-statement.org/checklist). Maximum word count is 1500.

  • Editorial

The editorial format are usually linked to one or more articles published in the same issue. Editorial should not contain of figure or table. Maximum word count is 1500.

Structure

The article is written with 1 space on A4 paper, with a 3 cm margin on the left edge, top and bottom and 2.5 cm on the right edge. The article should be typed with Bookman Old Style font, size 11. Every page on the article should be numbered sequentially. 

  • Title Page

The title page contains the title of the article; the authors full name and academic title; author's affiliation; correspondence address, phone number, facsimile number, and e-mail address. The title of the article is short and clear, no more than 14 words. 

  • Abstracts and keywords

Abstracts are written both in Indonesian and English, with a maximum of 250 words. Abstracts of research articles are written in a concise and clear format in the form of introductions, methods, results, and discussions (IMRAD) or introductions, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Select a maximum of 5 keywords for indexing and alphabetically ordered. The abstract case report is a short paragraph containing the case summary.

  • Table

Tables are arranged in sequence which are presented separately in the form of attachments. Each table should be short titled. Place annotations and abbreviations of table descriptions instead of table titles. We limit the number for images & tables maximum 6 in total for each paper, without any vertical/horizontal lines inside the table. We do not accept captured images of tables.

  • Image and diagrams

All forms of graphics, photographs, or diagrams will be considered as image files which to be sent separately in the form of attachments. Images written in English should be translated into Indonesian. Images of a person/patient may be accompanied by written permission. Any published images should be labeled and numbered according to the order on the text. We limit the number for images & tables maximum 6 in total for each paper. Minimum resolution for each image is 150 dpi.

  • Statistical Method

Explain the statistical methods in detail in the method section.

  • Acknowledgments and funding sources (if there is any)

Whenever applied, a gratitude may be given to the research contributor without using the scholarly title.

  • References

References are written in accordance with Vancouver writing style, numbered according to the order in articles with small numbers at the end of the sentence. References with more than 6 authors should use the form: "et al". References should be from journals and textbooks (maximum 20% proportion). References from articles already received and pending for publication should be written "in press". We suggest authors use recent references, and avoid reference more than 5 year olds for journal articles and 10 years old for textbooks. We also suggest authors to use Mendeley citation software to assist in reference management.
